1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how information is handled in connection with the MMISU mobile application. The application is developed by ICOM Group and is provided for the Society of Mediterranean Minimally Invasive Surgery in Urology (MMISU).

MMISU is the Society of Mediterranean Minimally Invasive Surgery in Urology, a professional society focused on minimally invasive urology, education, training, research, scientific meetings, workshops, and related educational activities.

MMISU is a professional medical/urological society application providing access to MMISU-related information, educational resources, events, activities, and services.

You can read this page without installing the application, creating an account, or signing in. Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected].

2. Information We Collect

The application handles information in the categories below. A category is included here only where the application actually uses it.

Information you choose to provide

  • If you email [email protected], ICOM Group and MMISU receive the email address you use and the information you include in the message.
  • The application displays web pages related to MMISU services. If you enter information on a page shown in the application, you provide that information to the website that operates the page. The application itself does not present a separate account-registration form.

Information used to operate the application

  • Notifications. The application requests permission to show notifications. To deliver them, it uses Firebase Cloud Messaging. The application obtains a device notification token and subscribes the device to an MMISU notification topic. The token is a technical identifier used to deliver notifications.
  • QR code scanning. If you choose to scan a QR code, the application requests camera access for that scan. The scanned text is copied to the clipboard on your device so you can paste it. Camera access is requested for this feature when you start a scan.
  • Application settings. The application reads operational settings from Firebase Realtime Database, including the web address to display and version information. That read is used to run the application.

Information required for a specific feature

Camera access is used when you start a QR scan. Notification permission and a device notification token are used so the application can deliver MMISU notifications.

3. How We Use Information

ICOM Group uses information to operate the MMISU application. MMISU uses information to provide society information, educational resources, events, activities, and related services. In particular, information is used to:

  • Provide and maintain the MMISU application
  • Display MMISU-related web content inside the application
  • Deliver notifications about MMISU information, events, activities, and services
  • Scan a QR code when you choose that feature, and place the result on your device clipboard
  • Load the operational settings the application needs in order to run
  • Read and respond to messages sent to [email protected]
  • Protect the operation and security of the application
  • Meet legal obligations that apply to the information

4. How We Share Information

Information may be shared in these situations:

  • ICOM Group and MMISU. ICOM Group, the developer of the application, and the Society of Mediterranean Minimally Invasive Surgery in Urology (MMISU) may use information as described in this policy to operate the application and provide MMISU services.
  • Service providers. Providers that support a feature described in this policy may process the information needed for that feature. Firebase Cloud Messaging processes the device notification token to deliver notifications. Firebase Realtime Database provides the operational settings the application reads.
  • Websites shown in the application. A website displayed in the application receives information you submit on that website.
  • Legal and safety reasons. Information may be disclosed where required by law, or where disclosure is needed to protect the security of the application, its users, or the public.

ICOM Group does not sell personal information from the MMISU application.

5. Third-Party Services

The MMISU application uses these services:

  • Firebase Cloud Messaging, to request notification permission, obtain a device notification token, subscribe the device to an MMISU notification topic, and deliver notifications.
  • Firebase Realtime Database, to read operational settings used to run the application, including the web address to display and version information.

Those providers process information for the functions above. Their own terms and privacy notices apply to their processing.

The application also opens external websites when you choose a link in the application. Those websites are described in External Websites and Services.

6. Notifications

The MMISU application can send notifications about MMISU information, events, activities, and services. The application asks for permission to show notifications on your device.

Delivery uses Firebase Cloud Messaging. The application obtains a device notification token and subscribes the device to an MMISU notification topic so those notices can be sent. A notification can include a title and a message, which are shown on your device.

You can turn notifications off in your device settings. Turning notifications off limits delivery of future notices to that device.

7. Data Security

ICOM Group and MMISU use measures designed to protect information handled through the MMISU application against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, and alteration. This policy does not name a particular security product, certification, or technical standard.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You should use care when sending information by email or when submitting information on a website opened from the application.

8. Data Retention

Information is kept for as long as it is needed to operate the MMISU application, provide the related MMISU service, respond to you, and meet legal, security, or legitimate operational requirements.

This policy does not set a fixed number of days for retention. When information is no longer needed for those purposes, it is deleted, or it is kept only where a legal, security, or legitimate operational reason requires it to be kept.

9. Account and Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your account or personal information by emailing [email protected]. State that you are requesting deletion, and include enough detail for the request to be identified, such as the email address connected with it.

Email to [email protected] is the way to make this request. The application does not offer a separate deletion page.

ICOM Group and MMISU will review the request. Certain information may need to be retained where required for legal, security, or legitimate operational purposes. Deletion is not promised to occur immediately, and this policy does not state a specific number of days.

If there is no account for you, the request will be handled as a request to delete personal information held in connection with the MMISU application or your message, subject to those retention limits.

10. Children's Privacy

The MMISU application is a professional society application for information, education, events, activities, and related services. It is not directed to children.

ICOM Group and MMISU do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the application. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the application, email [email protected] so the request can be reviewed.

11. External Websites and Services

The application displays web content from an address supplied in its operational settings. It can also open external websites when you use a link, including:

Those websites are separate from this Privacy Policy. When you open or submit information on an external website, that website's own privacy policy applies to information it collects. ICOM Group and MMISU are not responsible for the privacy practices of websites they do not operate.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

ICOM Group and MMISU may update this Privacy Policy. When it is updated, the new version will be published on this page and the Last updated date will be changed.

The date of the current version is September 30, 2026.
